Shaping my Teacher Idenity (Prompt 5)

Being at this school has changed my outlook on teaching. Going into this service learning with a clear mind I thought this was going to be easy, I thought wrong. These children have showed me that I may not be able to teach Elementary children. I have change my perspective a lot but maybe for the better. This class has helped me to realize that I would like to be a Secondary Education teacher. I have opened my mind up to a different level of teaching and I think I'm going to enjoy it. I can't wait to start at the high school/ middle school to see what that is like, maybe I will enjoy it better. We will see !!

  1. I hope you have the chance to experience both high school and elementary school so you can see how it is. In my opinion I think that Secondary Education will be much easier than Elementary Ed because you will be dealing with adolescent students, but they will understand you because their are young adults, and Elementary students are still children and most of the time they don't understand and want to do nothing. I think that's the reason why I'm in Secondary Ed. I'm really sorry to heard that about your experience with elementary students, but remember not everything in life is easy. I think you can do it. You will be a great Elemtary Ed teacher.

  2. I think it is wonderful that you were able to realize fairly soon in your education career that you actually don't like working ith little children. I think that you will work wonderfully with older children. I think that being a teacher no matter what age you are teaching requires energy and patience. I think that younger children require more patience than older children. I have no doubt you will make the choice that is right for you =]

  3. I hope that at the end of the semester you are able to decide what it is you would like to teach. It's good that you were able to experience being in an elementary setting and hope that you will be able to experience the secondary setting. Every class is different as well every school is different. And as teachers we need to make the best for our students, but you also have to be happy what and where you teach...Good Luck!

  4. I actually had a pretty similar experience. I thought that all children were going to be really cute and eager to learn.... however, they are just really loud and difficult to work with at times. I think that you will make a great teacher, regardless if it is in Elementary or Secondary Ed!
